"Another look into my sketch journal"

Submitted for your perusal, here are a bunch of pages out of my sketchbook. A lot of these are copies/tribute/homage recreations by the likes of Alan Davis, John Buscema , Walt Simonson, Hal Foster,Tom Yeates,Steve Epting,Lee Falk,Chris Samnee,Jerry Ordway,Kurt Schaffenberger,Will Eisner,Ernie Chan,CC Beck,Lee Weeks, Bruce Timm and Cary Nord. There are just as many original pieces in here as well. I even included a sample page in a how it's done kind of spirit.

I have been asked if the more detailed pieces are traced and I am happy tell you NO! I do not trace...I don't need to. I am an artist and have a reputation to uphold. I am working on a new comic book for self publication aside from filling this sketch journal and putting new drawings into the book keeps me sharp and helps me develop a steady hand and I learn things I can't explain by doing these drawings. In my younger years I attended art school and had aspirations to work in comics...but a series of unfortunate circumstances led to that having never happened. I floundered around for many years never having picked up a pencil but now I am back in black baby. I share these drawings with those who are interested and intrigued. If there are peo0ple who are neither of those. You can't please everyone. Hope you like my stuff enjoy.

"HULK SMASH" Avengers #1

Recently , due the the release of the SMASH blockbuster " Marvel's The Avengers " A comic book mini series was released on the unsuspecting public. Four issues of Gamma radiated action! My favorite of the bunch was the first issue. A fantastic dynamic cover by Lee Weeks and interiors by Ron Frenz and Sal Buscema. Now........this is what comic art should look like in my humble opinion. The storyline and the art were just like an old 70's book. Aside from the different speech pattern they have HULK spouting. He does not have that old Tarzan , Tonto and Frankenstein pantameter going on. He's forming entire sentences. Then the idea that HULK had been hiding the fact that he was smart all along...if you read closely.

But all I can say is out of the entire series the first issue is the best and I highly recommend picking this up and reading it...Besides the covers by Lee Weeks are simply gorgeous!

Here check out the first few pages of the comic book and enjoy.

A PEAK INTO MY SKETCHBOOK

I recently purchased a sketch journal and began to bust out sketches doodles and drawings...there are a few Tom Yeates copies just to help sharpen my skill and get my chops back...there are a few Bruce Timm copies as well but there are several of my own compositions and drawings of other characters in here too. It all started with the Gold Key Lone Ranger cover and then I just started running....I realized how much I love drawing again. I can't seem to stop I've been almost obsessing over it into my book like an OCD. I hope you enjoy checking out my sketch journal entires.

Flea Market finds part 4

I went to a Car show this past weekend. They had the whole flea market/swap meet thing going down. I found this stack of 10 comics from the late 60's on spmeones table. " Make me an offer. " the guy says...so I says to him I says..." 2 bucks! " ( just kidding around ) he says " SOLD! "
Thats pretty good considering the CASPER comics are tough to find even on Ebay....
" Thats a pretty cool flea market find if ya ax me" I says!
